This news item, and an earlier one about the fight waged by two moms, was posted by Diane Ravitch on her blog (do check out the reader comments). Does this suggest a turn for Ravitch? Will the anti-high-stakes fight recognize the central issue of the Core and its backward vision of being, “College and Career Ready”? Will this spur similar actions in other states? Will this opposition be linked to the demand of the USDOE for more testing of kindergarten children? Are left-wing and right-wing forces beginning to join efforts against the Core, recognizing, as everyone should, that defending the right of the public to decide is a “meta issues” that supersedes ideologically based policy preferences, etc. Without real mechanisms for the public to decide, it matters little what political preferences one may hold on any given issue.
